Inquisitorial Chimera

And there you thought I was just slacking all these days... I'm very excited about this mini. It is my first attempt at proper airbrushing and also my first attempt at using oils and pigments for weathering. I'm too tired to write a decent post now so I'll just give you the pics and I promise to write a more in-depth post with some information about the techniques used soon.

  1. This is a very good paintjob overall. There some things though that you could add in my opinions. More prominent chipping to break apart the surfaces even more. Also did you use only one type of pigment? And did you use that pigment fixed from MIG?

  2. Impressive!! I really like the model, great paintjob! And the best are the weathering, and that glass effect from the lamp! Very nice job ;D

  4. I will agree with all the others! Its a great airbrush effort and I must say that the glass effects you pull out on the lamps and other flashy materials is astonishing! Great work!

  5. So many comments so fast! Thanks everybody! It was great fun painting this mini as I was always using new techniques and experimenting. What's even better is that most of my experiments turned out ok and I didn't ruin it. Honestly I wasn't expecting it to work out that well.

@ The Antipope: I used mostly MIG pigments and a couple of WarPigs pigments. I didn't use any kind of pigment fixer. I brushed on the dry pigments and then "fixed" them in place with a very thin wash of Graveyard Earth and distiled water. I kow there is lots of room for improvements and I'll try to improve my technique on next minis. I epsecially have to perfect the use of oils and my chipping technique.

@ all the guys who have commented on the glass surfaces: Painting the searchlight was very easy. I just masked the adjacent areas and sprayed different colours with an airbrush. The vision ports were painted with a brush in a similar way to painting gems. Of course both were gloss varnished.

@War Tales: I have to say that buying an airbrush will totaly change the way you paint especially when it comes to vehicles. It's also great for aplying varnish consistently and without worying about it fogging. Lately there have been many great deals out there for airbrushes and compressors so you could grab one pretty cheap.
