Dwarf Slayer - Finished

This mini is officially finished now! I decided not to do any blood effects as I tested them on a goblin mini and found them overpowering. I'll just leave this mini as it is and move on to other projects. I took some final photos of the mini which you can see here.

  1. He's turned out wonderful, and I really like how you've painted the gems.

Only thing I think you should do, is to add some tufts of grass or some dried leaves to the base. Just to breathe a bit of life into that part of the model as well.

What else can we expect from your hand? What's next in your painting que?

  2. Thanks a lot for your kind words noeste.

At the moment I'm unsure as to how I want to flock the base and that's why I left it like that. I myself am between leaves or grass so when and if I make up my mind it'll probably be one of the two.

As to what I'm going to paint next, to be honest, I don't know yet. I'm thinking about trying zenithal highlighting using metalics sprayed through an airbrush. If I go with that it will either be the Sanguinary Guard unit I just assembled or an Inquisitor I built ages ago. This Inquisitor is quite a departure (or at least that's what I want to believe) since it's based on the Empire Engineer on Mechanical Steed model. I'd say it's more or less a case of steampunk meets 40k.

Anyway all these are just ideas at the moment. I might even paint a few grots just to relax a bit. Ahhh grots; the painter's equivalent of a stress relief ball!

  3. You could go for a mix of the two? Some leaves and some grass?

Either way, the Sanguinary Guard is a superly sculpted unit, so I can imagine it'll be great to paint, yet there's always something special about painting a model you've converted. Both options sounds interesting, so I'll keep a close watch on your blog.

  4. hey brother captain! Loved this dwarf!!!
specially, the hair. It looks much BETTER than the hair painted in the tutorial you've used as inspiration!!

Could you tell me how did you paint it?
    Thanks in advice!

  5. Thanks a lot Nesbet! I'm glad you liked my painting.

From what I can remember the only point where I probably deviated from the tutorial is that I aplied each highlight colour in 3 - 4 very thin leyers trying to achieve a smooth blend. To be honest it was quite a time consuming and tedious process.
